90 Day Trial Period Extended to Include All Employers

90 Day Trial Period

All employers in New Zealand, no matter their size, can use the 90 day trial period, effective from Saturday 23 December 2023.

There are certain conditions that apply for valid 90 day trial periods. These include when an offer of employment is made (whether verbally or written) it must include that the offer is subject to a 90 trial period. The trial period must be agreed in writing (as part of an employment agreement) prior to the employees start date. And the new employee must not have worked for the employer prior.

Please note, if employers are hiring people on certain work visas, they will also need to consider any immigration requirements relating to the use of trial periods.
